Footwear Material Exploration
Winter, 2024
During my internship at Variant3D (Innovative Knit Software Company), I developed series of swatches to explore the different
knit structures and the capability of programming on computerized knitting machine.
Using the knowledge from RISD's Textile course, I revisited the knit structures such as ottomans, pleats/folds, pointelles, jacquards. Then, I endeavored into three-dimensional shapes using goring, needle increase/decrease.
Combining those techniques, I created a breathable, lightweight shoe upper with lace holes and mesh panels. The textile is blend of recycled polyester yarns and elastic yarn.
